Vienna Doctoral School Mathematics

Vienna Doctoral School Mathematics

The Vienna Doctoral School in Mathematics was founded in 2016. A list of activities organized until October 2019 can be found here. During the last years there were plans to join forces with the TU Vienna to form a common doctoral school under the name Vienna School of Mathematics (VSM).

The first highlight of these activities was a joint kick off event in October 2019. These activities came simultaneously with plans of the University of Vienna to have a new type of doctoral schools, which made it necessary to fit the VSM into this framework. This caused a small delay, but starting from July 1, 2020, the VSM has been officially founded based on a treaty between the two Universities taking part in the school.

The VSM has an official website, which is the main source of information about the school and its activities.

The construction of the VSM makes it necessary to have some organizational structures which are only concerned with the part of the VSM situated at the University of Vienna. This structure consists of the director and the deputy director of the school, and the UNIVIE steering committee consisting of 8 members of the faculty of mathematics of the University of Vienna. Apart from supporting the committees of the VSM, the main obligation of the UNIVIE steering committee is to handle the procedures related to the positions for doctoral students that are financed via budget of the VSM proviced by the University of Vienna.
